Bhutan International School of Hospitality & Tourism (BISHT), a pioneer in Hospitality Education in the Kingdom of Bhutan, launched the first “Vocational Education & Training (VET) by EHL Licensed Training Centre,” in Thimphu, Bhutan on 1st August 2019. The VET by EHL Centre was inaugurated by the Swiss Ambassador to India and Bhutan, H.E. Dr. Andreas Baum and Mr. Aman Aditya Sachdev, Director and Country Head, India, EHL Advisory Services,

VET by EHL is based on a licensing model, comprising of Certificate and Diploma level courses across four (04) hospitality disciplines – Kitchen, Food & Beverage Service, Rooms and Hotel Administration. These courses are modular and consist of 03 levels, namely, Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each course spans six (06) months comprising of three (03) months at a VET by EHL licensed training centre and three (03) months industry internship. Upon successful completion of each level, the students are given a VET by EHL certificate and post end of all three levels in a functional stream (e.g., Food & Beverage Service), the students are awarded a Professional Diploma. Based on their years of experience in the industry, individuals can also enroll for these courses across different levels for further progression in their career in hospitality and service industries.

Speaking on occasion, Ms. Chencho Tshering, Director – BISHT, said, “With the launch of VET by EHL Programmes at BISHT, we aim to improve the employability of youth in Bhutan and help them achieve befitting career options in the hospitality sector within the country and overseas. We will be providing a Swiss benchmark course in the country without the hassle of students travelling elsewhere to get the Certification. The students will also be exposed to a live working environment through the internship as part of their curriculum, allowing them to gain exceptional experience. BISHT will also provide support in employment opportunities for graduates.”

Also speaking on occasion, Mr. Aman Aditya Sachdev, Director & Country Head, India, EHL Advisory Services said,In our continuous effort to represent the Swiss tradition of hospitality education excellence globally, we have developed VET by EHL Programmes, through which our education philosophy and knowledge will be transferred. Our vision is to continue to share the Swiss hospitality education knowhow around the world. We are pleased to partner with Bhutan International School of Hospitality and Tourism (BISHT), to introduce VET by EHL that will not only address the skills gap in the hospitality sector but also generate a positive mindset shift.”

VET by EHL platform has been designed by the EHL Group based on the Swiss VET model and Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne’s (EHL) 125 year legacy as the world’s number one hospitality management school. This platform will train the youth in Bhutan at as per VET by EHL standards, to help them enter not only the hospitality industry but also allied service industries.
